I love music. I cannot play anything because it required practice and I passed up the chance to learn drums. I admit this was stupid.

How it all started
I’d say everything started when my uncle bought the cassette for the group Enigma. It affected me deeply. I would play the tape repeatedly and imagine sequences for the songs. I’d seen a music video once that was reminiscent of Phantom of the Opera and the girl had been running through some behind-the-scenes hallway. This image played repeatedly in my head while listening to the tape. This is when music started to work its way into my dreams, my imagination, and my soul.

Later, at a Girl Scout lock-in at a mall, I was feeling lonely and wandering around aimlessly looking for people. I heard Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls. This became the song for my life. For the rest of my life I would connect this song to my feelings. It would describe how I didn’t dare tell boys I loved them and how I didn’t feel real. I don’t recall how I got into rock. I wasn’t allowed to listen to it as a child because my mom thought it was evil, so I can’t blame my uncle for his Scorpions and Poison tapes. It might’ve been a friend online, but I think it might’ve been Mix 106.3 who played late night rock music. Slowly, as I taped songs that sounded cool, I got into heavier and heavier things. When my brother found VH1 and MTV on our television, it just helped.

I started listening to older rock once I started hanging out at the local arcade and my friends played AC/DC and Metallica.

Rock and Metal     This is my favorite genre. It’s extremely diverse in that rock can be soft and relaxing or it can be driving and loud and heavy and screaming. All that matters is that it have a great beat and soothing electric guitars.

Why I like Rock & Metal:
1.  It's loud
2.   It can make me forget my problems
3.   I can let the musicians be angry for me
4.   No matter how grungy and heavy a song is, it still has the potential to be soothing and calming for me
5.   Moshing with my friends
6  . Headbanging
7.   Electric guitars reverberate in my heart
8.   Awesome beats
9.   Powerful music
10.  Many of the lyrics inspire my art
